Nearly 125 Dabney S. Lancaster students and area individuals, organizations and businesses were recognized during the annual Donor Scholar Reception, which honors not only scholarship recipients, but the donors who sponsor DSLCC scholarships or donate to other areas of the College. The event, hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation, was held Friday, October 12, in the DSLCC Convocation Center on the Clifton Forge campus. Many of the students’ family members were also in attendance. Executive Director Rachael Thompson told the audience that the Foundation has awarded an unprecedented $290,000-plus in scholarships for the current academic year.
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College students were recognized as recipients of the Dabney Promise Scholarship during during the annual Donor Scholar Reception hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation on October 12 on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus. Established in 2016, the Dabney Promise Program helps fill the financial gap by paying for classes and books, after traditional scholarships and financial aid have been exhausted. Students are required to maintain a minimum 2.25 GPA, be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours per semester and complete 4 hours of community service, among other requirements.
Hannah Wolfe (left) of Covington, a second-year student in the Nursing Program at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, was honored as the winner of the prestigious Wilson Cup for Scholarship, Character and Community Service, during the annual Donor Scholar Reception hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation October 12 on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus. Presenting the award were Bill and Lang Wilson, who sponsor the scholarship. Hannah is an active member of the Nursing Students Association, serves as a volunteer EMT for the Covington Rescue Squad, and participates in a number of events within the city of Covington, including standing by for the Covington Cougar football games. She also serves as a CNA and is working toward becoming a Registered Nurse.
Bruce Pettijohn of Lexington served as one of four student speakers during the annual Donor Scholar Reception at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College on October 12. Bruce, a Marine veteran, and the other student speakers talked about how receiving scholarships is helping to realize their career and educational goals. The reception, hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation, honored the DSLCC scholarship recipients, scholarship donors, and donors to other areas of College support. Bruce received the Linda Rose Memorial Scholarship.
Lacy Cline of Rockbridge Baths served as one of four student speakers during the annual Donor Scholar Reception at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College on October 12. Lacy, who is enrolled in the Nursing program at DSLCC, and the other student speakers talked about how receiving scholarships is helping to realize their career and educational goals. The reception, hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation, honored the DSLCC scholarship recipients, scholarship donors, and donors to other areas of College support. Lacy is a Dabney Promise Scholar and also received the Lois W. Morgan Nursing Scholarship.

Marlee, a second year student at DSLCC, and the other student speakers talked about how receiving scholarships is helping to realize their career and educational goals. The reception, hosted by the DSLCC Educational Foundation, honored the DSLCC scholarship recipients, scholarship donors, and donors to other areas of College support. Marlee received the Carolyn B. Nettleton Scholarships for Business, the Jackson River Community Credit Union Scholarship, and she is also a Dabney Promise Scholar.
