What types of scholarships are available to MGCC students?
MGCC Educational Foundation scholarships are funded by individuals, corporations, and community groups and are awarded by the MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee on a competitive basis.
Privately funded scholarships are those awarded through sources outside MGCC. Examples of these scholarships include those offered by companies like Wal-Mart, Burger King, Coca Cola, etc. These types of scholarship have specific applications, eligibility requirements, and deadlines. The MGCC Educational Foundation does not coordinate private scholarships and all information contained on this page refers only to MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarships.
All students, regardless of income or academic performance, are required to fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Why should I apply for a MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarship?
Any student currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a curriculum at MGCC who has a minimum 2.75 GPA is encouraged to apply for a MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarship. You need only fill out one MGCC EF standard scholarship application form. If you complete and submit your scholarship application packet by the deadline, you will automatically be considered for all scholarships for which you meet the eligibility requirements. Am I still eligible for a MGCC Educational Foundation scholarship even if I don’t qualify for financial aid?
Absolutely! We believe in rewarding hard work and academic excellence; therefore, most MGCC EF scholarships are merit based. While most are open to everyone in the MGCC service area, others were created to reward exceptional academic performance or to provide support for students enrolled/enrolling in a specific program, living in a particular region of the service area, or who demonstrate particular need.
What is the Roadrunner Promise Scholarship Program?
The Roadrunner Promise Program is open to ALL MGCC students; high school, continuing, non-traditional and nursing. The Roadrunner Promise Program is a need based scholarship that helps to remove the financial barriers of attending MGCC. In addition, the Roadrunner Promise helps pay for the cost of books. Acceptance into the program is based on the level of need and current available funding. The foundation will pay only for books purchased through the MGCC bookstore. Any funds not used by a recipient during an award period will be returned to the individual scholarship account to be used by future recipients.
How are recipients selected and notified?
Recipients for the various awards are chosen by the MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarship Committee based upon previous course study, GPA, standardized test scores, recommendations, and essay(s). Recipients will be notified whether or not they receive an award typically within two weeks following the respective deadline. Students who do not receive scholarships also will be notified. Students who apply for, but do not receive, a MGCC Educational Foundation scholarship still may be eligible for assistance from federal or state sources. Please contact the campus Financial Aid Office for more information regarding this type of help.
