DSLCC Educational Foundation Board Names New Member
The DSLCC Educational Foundation Board is proud to announce that P. Duaine Fitzgerald has been named as a new member of the Board of Directors. Fitzgerald recently retired from Bank of Botetourt as a Senior Vice President and commercial lender, having accumulated over forty-four years of banking experience. He graduated from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in 1972 and is also a 1980 graduate of the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He plans to continue with the Bank part-time as an advisor.
DSLCC Educational Foundation Board President, Donna Vaughn, was eager to welcome Fitzgerald to the Board, stating, “We are delighted and honored to have Duaine join us on the Educational Foundation Board. As an alum and former College Board member of DSLCC, Duaine knows and values the significance of a Dabney education. His knowledge, experience, and connections will serve our Foundation very well. We all look forward to working with him to advance our mission of Building Futures, Building Lives, Building Hope."
A lifelong resident of Buena Vista and Rockbridge County, Duaine has deep roots and a strong sense of community. He has been instrumental in Bank of Botetourt's efforts expanding into the Lexington, Fairfield and Natural Bridge markets. Under his management and supervision, the Bank also began the mortgage division, Virginia Mountain Mortgage, along with Mountain Valley Title Insurance Agency, LLC and Rockbridge Title Services, LLC.
In addition to his recent appointment to the Educational Foundation Board, Fitzgerald has previously served as a member of the Rockbridge County Industrial Development Authority (IDA) and a board member of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (DSLCC). Duaine currently serves as the Chairman of the Rockbridge Area Board of Social Services and has been a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church, where he has served as treasurer since 1989 and enjoys singing in the choir.
Duaine and his wife Susan met at DSLCC. They have two children, Matthew Duaine, who currently resides in Roanoke and Leslie Susan, who resides in Staunton with their two granddaughters, Kate and Caroline.
Established as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation exists solely to support and promote Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. The Educational Foundation's primary focus is to keep education affordable through the awarding of student scholarships and to provide students the support they need to achieve their goals. The Foundation also supports the college through the purchase of enhanced technology and classroom equipment and assists in funding innovative programming.
The Foundation has awarded more than $295,000 in scholarships to 125 students for the upcoming academic year.
