DSLCC Student Named to All-Virginia Academic Team
Dabney S. Lancaster Community College hosted a virtual ceremony April 22 to induct the newest members into the Alpha Eta Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honorary academic society for two-year colleges. The guest speaker was DSLCC President Dr. John Rainone.
In addition, two DSLCC seniors, Ashlee Baker of Lexington and Emily Hamilton of Lewisburg, WV, were named to the PTK All-Virginia Academic Team, which recognizes high achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extend beyond the classroom to benefit society.
Ashlee is majoring in General Studies at DSLCC and plans to transfer to Virginia Tech to major in Biology on a pre-dentistry track. Emily will graduate from the Nursing Program at DSLCC and has accepted a registered nursing positon for Pediatric Care Unit at a local hospital. She plans to start her BSN program in January, working towards becoming a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on clinical education. Both Ashlee and Emily were honored during a virtual ceremony on April 21.
Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges. Students eligible for membership must have completed at least 12 credit hours of coursework in their designated program of study with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
The 23 newest members of the DSLCC chapter for the 2020-21 school year were inducted, and the 19 members from the 2019-2020 school year, who were unable to have a formal induction ceremony due to COVID-19 closures, were also recognized. They all include:
Fall 2019 inductees: Jennifer Dorsey, Emily Hamilton, Craig Lyle, Terresa Reynolds, Bryan Sharp, Kimberly Smedley and Makenna Smith.
Spring 2020: Tamera Armbruster, Emilee Booze, Hannah Brewster, Heather Caldwell, Katie Dameron, DeeDee Harless, Hailey Huffman, Trevor Plecker, Makenna Smith, Alaina Spangler and Brooklyn Sykes.
Fall 2020: Thomas Andrews, Ashlee Baker, Giovanni Brown, Jennifer Crawley, Sarah Cook, Ruth Hickman, Spencer Hickman, Harper Knick, Abby Martin, Olivia Moran, Riley Potter and Abigale Pritt.
Spring 2021: Tristan Ayers, Meghan Cash, Sydney Cullen, Sondra Elliot, Sarrin Hamilton, Kassie Huffman, Erin Harden, Keely Lowman, Macie Miller, Kathryn Shofstahl and Benjamin Tremblay.
