Instructor David Shofstahl (standing) leads the opening session of the NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) Core course, the first class to meet in the new Wilson Workforce Center, operated by Mountain Gateway Community College. The newly renovated facility, which opened last month in the former McCormick building on Forest Ave. in Buena Vista, also is offering NCCER Electrical Level 1 and NCCER HVACR Level 1 courses. “Additionally, we are meeting with a group of seven electrical apprentices here on a separate schedule for customized related technical instruction,” notes Shofstahl, who serves as Apprenticeship Coordinator for MGCC. “We have an EPA 608 class scheduled on October 21 and will be scheduling OSHA 10 for construction later in the semester.” Students pictured, clockwise from right: Hunter Ryder, Jeff Hogge, Caden Garrett, James Lipscomb, Austin Boguess, Jeremy White, Dallas Staton, Jayden Richardson, Chris Doerfler, and Sydney Bushnell.
