MGCC celebrates success of high school students in Advanced Healthcare Assistant program
Clifton Forge, VA - MGCC is proud to commemorate the achievements of high school students from Parry McCluer, Alleghany, and Bath counties who have completed comprehensive healthcare trainings as part of the Advanced Healthcare Assistant (AHA) program in just one year. Among the accomplished students, seven are currently employed as CNAs in local nursing homes, five are pursuing pre-nursing studies at Mountain Gateway, three are university-bound, one is enrolling in cosmetology school, and one remains undecided about their future path.
The AHA program, exclusively available to high school seniors, equips students with essential healthcare skills and prepares them to address the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. Successful completion of the AHA training, along with passing scores on the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification exam, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam, and the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam, provides students with the foundation, skills, and credentials necessary to excel in the modern healthcare environment. Licensure as a CNA in Virginia, regulated by the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON), requires a Criminal Background Check (CBC), with certain barrier crimes potentially barring candidates from licensure.
The program and its students are a testament to the dedication and success of the AHA program at MGCC, and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort of aspiring healthcare professionals.
There are a few remaining spots available in the AHA program for the upcoming school year. Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Robin Jennings (rjennings@mgcc.edu) or Tiffany Rosales (trosales@mgcc.edu) for further information.
