Mountain Gateway Community College announces updates regarding fiscal agent, director search for MG-TEC IT Academy
Clifton Forge, Va. - Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is pleased to announce important developments concerning the Mountain Gateway Information Technology Education Center (MG-TEC) laboratory school.
New state legislation mandates the fiscal agent to be a public four-year institution of higher education. Fruitful negotiations with Old Dominion University (ODU) led to the signing of a Fiscal Agent agreement for MG-TEC on June 12.
Due to the delays in securing a fiscal agent and the director search, MGCC has decided to postpone the start of coursework until Fall 2025. Student recruitment will begin this fall, but coursework will not commence until fall 2025. This delay will allow ample time for the hiring of the director, finalization of admissions/lottery policies and procedures, development of a testing center, and completion of renovations to classroom spaces on Main Campus and in Buena Vista.
MGCC is excited to offer year coursework to interested students through dual enrollment classes in local high schools and online coursework via MGCC. Students interested in starting MG-TEC in Fall 2025 are encouraged to enroll in ITE 152 (Introduction to Computers) and ITP 150 (Python Programming) this coming year.
