Mountain Gateway Community College faculty member embarks on educational travel experience to Italy, thanks to Hammond Grant
Clifton Forge, Va. - Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is excited to announce that one of its faculty members recently embarked on a unique educational travel experience to Italy. Tina Dressler, MGCC Associate Professor of Psychology, visited Rome, Venice, Florence, Verona, and Pisa in May 2024 and brought the trip to the community through a virtual social media experience.
During the trip, Tina worked to share the rich cultural and historical experiences of each city in Italy with the students, faculty, staff, and greater community of MGCC. By collaborating with MGCC's marketing team, Tina shared pictures and information via social media platforms allowing everyone to take a virtual field trip to Italy in real-time.
"I was incredibly excited about this opportunity to bring the sights and knowledge from Italy directly to our community," said Tina. "This was not only an enriching experience for our students but also a way to celebrate the end of the academic year and graduation."
The itinerary included spending two days in each city - Rome, Florence, and Venice, beginning with the arrival in Rome on May 12, 2024.
The trip was made possible thanks to the Mr. & Mrs. W. B. Hammond, Sr. Faculty Development Grant, established by the Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation through a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Hammond, Sr., in memory of Mr. Hammond’s parents. The purpose of the grant is to enable current, full-time teaching faculty at MGCC to enhance and broaden their expertise through international or domestic educational travel experiences. Tina will be using the experience to demonstrate the role culture plays in shaping our development regarding language, thinking, and behavior in her PSY 230 class.
