Mountain Gateway Community College hosts successful New Student Orientation
Clifton Forge, VA - Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) hosted its annual New Student Orientation on Friday, August 23, in preparation for the fall semester. The orientation was designed to provide a warm and informative welcome to new students, ensuring they are well-prepared for their academic journey at MGCC.
A dedicated team of staff and volunteers welcomed students to campus on Friday morning with smiling faces and upbeat music. The event started with a welcome session, during which students heard welcoming speeches from College President Dr. John Rainone and Associate Vice President/Chief Student Affairs Officer Suzanne Ostling. After hearing from Chief Workforce Office Matt McGraw and Vice President for Financial & Administrative Services Angie Graham regarding safety and security, students had the option to participate in various activities including faculty meet-and-greets, guided tours, information sessions, and making their ID cards. Lunch was served around noon.
The orientation was well-attended with several community partners present, including Safehome, the Alleghany Highlands YMCA, the Rockbridge County Community Services Board, the Alleghany County/Covington Health Department, the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board, and Project Horizon.
The student turnout and the support of community partners underscore MGCC's commitment to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for new students as they begin their academic pursuits.
