Mountain Gateway Community College nurses honored during pinning ceremony
On Wednesday night, a pinning ceremony was held at the Convocation Center on the Mountain Gateway Community College Clifton Forge campus to celebrate the achievements of thirty nursing students.
The event began with opening remarks by MGCC President Dr. John Rainone, followed by Nursing Program Head Dr. Catherine Hiler's introduction of the speaker.
This year's featured speaker was Dianna Coffey. She has been in the nursing field for more than 35 years and once served as a previous flight nurse for Lifeguard. She is now the clinical educator at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital and has a great passion for serving those in the community.
After Coffey's speech, Devon Nicely, an MGCC Nursing Faculty member, spoke about the significance of the Pin. Then, families joined the nurses on stage for the official pinning ceremony. Once all nurses received their pins, Andra Fridley, an MGCC Adjunct Nursing Faculty member, led the lighting of the lamp. Nicole McCain invited all nurses, both newly pinned and those in the crowd, to recite the Nightingale Pledge.
MGCC Nursing Faculty member Summer Byer closed the ceremony with the Blessing of the Hands.
