Dabney S. Lancaster Community College’s Workforce Solutions and Community Education Division has scheduled a 84-hour National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Curriculum course, beginning February 17, in Room 649, in the DSLCC Armory on the Clifton Forge campus.
The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The instructor is David Shofstahl, DSLCC Apprenticeship Coordinator.
“The spring semester is a great time to take this course and get an early start on your trades program,” says Shofstahl. “Core is a pre-/co-requisite for any of the NCCER Level 1 craft courses, and by taking it now rather than co-enrolling in the fall, you can reduce your course load and free up time to focus on your specific craft. Whether you are planning to go into HVAC, Electrical, or Industrial Maintenance, earning the NCCER Core credential now will give you a head start on your skill trades program next fall.”
NCCER provides instructional pathways for craft and trade education and certification, awarding nationally recognized credentials for students who learn, master and demonstrate a level of proficiency in their craft, trade or profession.
The NCCER Core Curriculum is a prerequisite to all other Level 1 craft curriculum. With modules in Basic Safety, Construction Math, Hand Tools, Power Tools, Construction Drawings, Basic Rigging, Materials Handling, Basic Communication Skills, and Basic Employability Skills, this course provides the trainee the basic skills needed to continue education in any craft area. The tuition fee, which includes textbooks, is $1,098.
