Skilled trades expansion: New opportunities in Plumbing, Carpentry at Mountain Gateway Community College
Clifton Forge, Va. - Mountain Gateway Community College is excited to announce the expansion of its skilled trades education programs with the recent approval of FastForward funding for Plumbing and Carpentry. These programs are set to launch in the spring semester, providing valuable opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing careers in these fields.
The demand for skilled trades education at MGCC is evident with the overwhelming enrollment in the HVAC Level 1 and Electrical programs. Additionally, registered apprenticeships are experiencing remarkable growth in the region, demonstrating the college's commitment to providing industry-relevant training and education.
In a strategic partnership with local high schools, MGCC is working to align secondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) credentials with the construction pathways offered at the college. Rockbridge County High School has already taken proactive steps by adopting the NCCER program, which will equip up to 20 high school graduates for direct articulation into MGCC's FastForward construction crafts programs. RCHS is the first school to come on board. This initiative will eventually include all of MGCC's high school CTE partners.
Through these initiatives and partnerships, MGCC solidifies its position as the prime destination for individuals seeking a high-quality education in skilled trades. The college remains dedicated to empowering students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the rapidly evolving construction industry.
