State Board votes to limit base tuition increases at Virginia’s Community Colleges
Last week, the Virginia’s Community Colleges System announced that the State Board for Community Colleges voted to cap base tuition increases to three percent for in-state students.
The new in-state rate at Mountain Gateway Community College will be $167.40 per credit hour or $2,511.00 for a 15-credit-hour semester. The increase, which includes fees, will go into effect for the upcoming fall semester.
“Although it’s difficult to increase tuition at any time, our costs still reflect significant savings for the first two years of any public or private four-year university,” said MGCC President Dr. Rainone. “With financial aid, scholarships, and the G3 program, MGCC offers the most affordable college education in the area.”
More than 250 graduates accepted certificates and diplomas from MGCC this spring. Three-quarters of the class, 75%, paid no tuition thanks to scholarships or the G3 program.
