TAP, in partnership with Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, has been awarded a $1,337,918 grant from the Department of Labor to launch Appalachian CareerForge.
The grant will be used to fund programing that will support unemployed workers in seeking job training at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in three high-demand career areas in the region.

- Phlebotomy
- Truck Driving (Commercial Driver’s License - Class A)
Local leaders and the media are invited to attend a formal announcement and press conference on Wednesday, October 7 at 9:30 a.m. outside the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Library, located in Scott Hall, to learn more about Appalachian CareerForge and how this new program represents an investment in the workers of this region. In case of rain, we will move to the TAP office in Covington located at 118 S. Lexington Avenue.
Workers will also receive support and coaching through TAP to help them succeed during their training and later on the job.
Appalachian CareerForge, funded through the Department of Labor’s Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) initiative, will benefit workers in the following localities:
- Alleghany County, VA
- City of Covington, VA
- Craig County, VA
- Bath County, VA
- Rockbridge County, VA
- City of Lexington, VA
- City of Buena Vista, VA
- Greenbrier County, WVA
