Dabney S. Lancaster Community College has received approval for two more programs of study for eligible veterans seeking to use their educational benefits at the College. The Sustainable Agriculture and Instrumentation Technology Career Studies Certificates have received approval for veterans through programs that include, but are not limited to, the Post 911 G.I. Bill, Montgomery G.I. Bill, and the Reserve Educational Assistance Program.
Many benefits are available to advance the education and skills of veterans and, in many cases, spouses and family members may also be eligible for education and training assistance. Veterans may be able to take advantage of more than one benefit while enrolled. DSLCC staff will work with each veteran to assist them in determining which program or programs are best suited to their specific academic and career goals.
“I am delighted with this announcement for our veterans and their families”, commented Dr. John Rainone, president of DSLCC. “Serving our veterans is something that we consider a privilege and we welcome them to think of DSLCC first. Both of these programs are gaining in popularity. Agriculture is in the news as more and more people become interested in growing and serving locally produced foods. The Instrumentation program is one that prepares for entry into a technology-driven manufacturing environment. Both programs are great options.”
For more information about using veterans/ educational benefits, contact Joy Broyles, DSLCC Financial Aid Coordinator, at 540/863-2861 or Student Services, 863-2820 in Backels Hall on the Clifton Forge campus to schedule a visit. Due to the response time that it may take for processing benefits, it is strongly recommended that veterans planning to enroll in the Fall should come in immediately to begin the filing process.
Veterans who want to maximize all of the benefits that they have and get some guidance during the academic year may want to become part of the DSLCC Veterans Services Center on campus. Once enrolled, students are encouraged to visit the Center, staffed between August 24, 2015 and May 14, 2016 or call 540-863-2856 during the Fall and Spring Semesters.
Veterans and family members who plan to enter a program soon should contact DSLCC immediately to complete the admission process. Fall semester classes begin the week of August 24 and registration is underway.
