CLIFTON FORGE, VA -- Dr. John Rainone, President of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, is a recipient of a 2016 Giving Back Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education. This award honors presidents and chancellors of colleges and universities who go beyond everyday leadership duties and “give back” to their campuses and communities. Dr. Rainone will be featured with 26 other recipients, in the April 2016 Leadership Support and Giving Back issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
Giving Back Award recipients were selected by INSIGHT Into Diversity based on their outstanding demonstration of social responsibility, a commitment to charitable services, and involvement with students, faculty and staff to serve underrepresented populations. Nominees demonstrate passion, dedication and philanthropic endeavors in many areas.
Immediately upon assuming his position, Dr. Rainone began to reach out to faculty, staff and students, seeking input into many aspects of college operations and finding ways in which to improve services and programs for students. Many members of the communities served by DSLCC have commented that he is also open, creative and receptive to new ideas outside of the College to move the region forward. He makes a sincere effort to engage others by trying to understanding their goals, interests and issues, believing that everyone can learn something from others with whom they interact and be richer for the exchange of ideas.
“I am honored to receive this award on behalf of Dabney S Lancaster Community College,” Rainone said. “This recognition is a reflection of the great work accomplished daily by the students, faculty, and staff of the College.”
“The Giving Back Award is being given to leaders of institutions of higher education who exemplify what it truly means to ‘give back’ to others,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “These presidents and chancellors are role models, and we honor their efforts to give back to everyone on their campuses and in their communities.”
