The Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Men’s Basketball team lost both games over the weekend in Pinehurst, NC, but Head Coach Brandon Garrett was pleased overall with the team’s effort. The Roadrunners played against Guilford Technical Community College on Friday, and Sandhills Community College on Saturday.
“We played two very good teams this past weekend,” he noted. “We were a little out of our league as far as size goes. We lost both games by about 30, but on the flip side, it was a great learning experience for us. It’s not every day you have the opportunity to play the number 25 team in the country and then turn around and play the number 7 team.”
“I think our guys saw where we want our program to be and what we need to do as a program to get there,” he added.
Garrett said that both games started out with a 15-0 lead over the Roadrunners. “If you take that away, the games were much closer,” he said. “We really had a tough time matching up with their athletes. Our biggest guys go 6'1, 6'2 and we are trying to guard 6'8 and 6'9, that makes it tough. I am proud of the way we competed until the very end. We have a lot of work to do, but I’m confident we will get there. Even with these two big losses we have still seen progress throughout the weekend.”
DSLCC’s first home games in the Armory on the Clifton Forge campus are scheduled this weekend: Friday, November 15, at 8 pm against Bryant and Straton (OH) College, and Saturday, November 16, at 2 pm against The Crown College from Tennessee.
