Samantha Graves of Lexington, an Information Technology student at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, has been chosen to participate in a NASA program, “Launching 2 Learnâ€, at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for four weeks in July. The Launching 2 Learn (L2L) project is a hands-on experience that teaches the science and math behind high power rockets (HPR). The central goal of the project is to contribute to retention efforts for the underserved and underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The project aims to increase STEM-literacy, raise confidence in technical abilities, and encourage students to continue with their pursuits of higher education in STEM fields. Graves, who plans to graduate from DSLCC next year, hopes to have a career in network administration.
